A radio channel, named as Voice of Newstead, was launched on the 25th of October in the Media & Communication Room of Newstead Girls’ College to commemorate the Bicentennial Anniversary of the college. This broadcast lasted from Tuesday the 25th to Friday the 28th of October 2016.
This channel was officially launched by the Principal, Mrs H. M. GayaniPrasanthikaHerath with the participation of Mr Ivan Kiriella, the teacher-in-charge of Media, MrSusilPriyashantha, the teacher-in-charge of Media Coverage for the celebration week, MsSandamaliKuruppu and MsThyagaBandara.
The radio transmission was aired on 90.1 FM from 09.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m. Announcing, interviews and song requests were conducted by the students of the college Media Unit.
Talent Show of Newsteadites was held on the 26th of October 2016 in the school premises. The Chief Guest of the occasion was the Veteran Artiste Jackson Anthony. In his address, he highly talked of the talents of the Newsteadites and was much impressed and exultant.
