The first round of the Robert Newstead Championship Debating Tournament, organized by the College Prefects Guild, was held on 3rd of March 2018 by participation of 10 schools. Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo and Royal College, Colombo selected to the final. The final round was held on 3rd of April 2018 at the College Main Hall. Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo won the trophy while Royal College, Colombo emerged as runners-up.

Mr. Manjula Kariyawasam, Director of Sports of the Ministry of Education graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Deputy Director of the National Cadet Corps (Western Province) Colonel Yamuna Hettiarachchi participated as the Special Guest.
