Eastern Music & Sing Orchestra

Oriental music was introduced to our college on 07 October1997.At that time,Mrs.Senarathna was the Principal. Mrs.Bimba Maheshi Weerasuriya assumed duties as the Principal in 2003.During her tenure, a separate building was built for teaching of oriental music.

Since 1998, the school has trained fine orchestras daily from 7 a.m. to 7.30 a.m. Training sessions of special musical instruments took place. Every year oriental music section has participated in ALL ISLAND school music and dramatic competitions. This section has won first, second and third places in these competitions. Prizes have been won in the use of tabla, flute and Sitar.

About one hundred and fifteen students learn oriental music. The school has provided facilitiesto study oriental music, for students of grades from 6 to 13. Presently three teachers are in charge of teaching this subject. Students studying in G.C.E. O/L and G.C.E. A/L classes study this subject.

Some students have got distinction passes and some have gained admission to the university. In 2012, oriental music was introduced to the primary school curriculum. Currently three teachers are teaching this subject. They are Visharad. K.A. ChitraKatugampala, Ms. R.S. Dissanayake and Ms. I. A.H. Pathiraja.

Another eastern orchestra was started in 2013. The college won the 2nd and 3rd places in Tabla competition in the provincial level competition of All Ceylon School Competition” in 2013. The Oriental Music unit participates in all the activities of the college. The one and only aim of oriental music section is to bring respect and prestige to the
